What have I learned?
Congratulations you have completed the Developmental Domains unit.
You have learned and gained a greater understanding of how:
-
to make more effective use of this rich source of information
-
to distinguish the valid information from the worthless
-
to conduct an effective search for online information.
As an education support worker, you are there to help support the teachers and students at your school. This support is more complex than supervising students or typing and preparing worksheets.
At times you will need to use your skills to support students in their physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development. You need to support all students no matter what their learning styles are or their abilities.
It is vital that you are familiar with your school's or centre's policies. These can vary from state to state and school to school. Adhere to these policies at all times. These are your ‘guides’.
Maintain a sound professional relationship with your supervising teachers. Discuss any concerns that you may have observed in a particular student. Teachers may be able to advise you on some strategies you can use. It may be pertinent to call in an ‘expert’. Remember that many of these outcomes may be confidential. Your supervising teacher, your students, your families all ‘trust’ you in your duty of care with the children.
And lastly, enjoy this very exciting and rewarding role in helping set the future of young people and our communities.
